Next meeting: Thursday 9 June, 7.00pm – 8.00pm
This new Local Peer Support Group provides a welcoming, safe and friendly opportunity for people to meet up to share experiences, tips and information. At our first group meeting in Leicestershire we will give a warm welcome to our Retina UK Volunteer Facilitator Sarah Leadbetter.
We will be joined by Cath Bayley, Vista Community Services Manager. Cath manages the statutory services provided by Vista on behalf of Leicester City Council Rutland County Council and Leicester County Councils. Working alongside a team who provide services to people across LLR living with sight and dual sensory loss.
Vista is one of the oldest and largest local charities in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. They’ve been working with people with sight loss and their families for over 160 years.
Their aims are as follows:
- Promote eye health to prevent avoidable sight loss;
- Reduce the impact of sight loss, and
- Provide support and care for people affected by sight loss.
As well as rehabilitation and residential homes, Vista provides specialist services for people with learning disabilities, dementia and dual sensory impairment. They are there at the point of diagnosis, supporting children and adults in eye clinics by providing information, advice, guidance and support when it’s most needed.
They teach people with sight loss new skills and provide specialist equipment and tools. Their qualified specialist staff have a wealth of experience in supporting people with sight loss to develop important practical, social and emotional skills, building their confidence and independence. They support children and adults with sight loss, providing specialist leisure activities, creative and expressive music sessions, and professional rehabilitation support in both the home and the community.
Cath will be talking about the services Vista provide, how people can access them, and their work to promote the prevention of sight loss.
