Trustee vacancies

Retina UK is the only UK charity that supports people living with inherited retinal degeneration, which causes sight loss. We support people affected by inherited progressive sight loss and we invest in medical research to ensure that people can lead a fulfilling life.

Our vision is a world where everyone affected by inherited sight loss is able to live a fulfilling life. 2020 saw the introduction of the very first treatment for an inherited retinal dystrophy. Luxturna (Voretigene neparvovec) was administered to the first patient in the UK in early 2020. This exciting (and expensive) gene therapy is available on the NHS thanks, in part, to evidence provided by Retina UK to illustrate the patient perspective and lifetime cost of inherited retinal conditions.

We are currently recruiting for a range of volunteer trustee roles and would like to hear from you if you have skills and/or experience in medicine, fundraising, business, leadership or human resources.

No previous trustee experience is required but we are keen to recruit individuals who have direct or indirect experience of inherited retinal dystrophies. Full induction training will be provided to successful candidates.

You will be joining our charity at a time when the support we provide has never been more needed. As a member of our governing Board, this is an opportunity to shape the strategic future direction of the charity as we enter our 50th anniversary in 2025 / 2026.

You will need to make a commitment to the charity, including attending meetings throughout the year. In return we can promise you an interesting, thought provoking and rewarding experience.

Please register your interest in joining our Board by emailing trusteeapplications@RetinaUK.org.uk by 5.00pm on Monday 30 June. The selection process will take place in September.
