Meet our Ambassador: Colin Hetherington
Colin was born in Dumfries and now lives near Glasgow. He is living with Usher syndrome, a dual sensory loss condition affecting his eyes and his hearing. He and his wife, Lyn, both have guide dogs: Jumble and Yozi.
Colin loves to travel and attends many events from Inverness to London and everywhere in between. Hobbies include tandem cycling and walking in the hills with Jumble.
He started a peer support group in Newcastle, the Northern Alliance, 11 years ago which has gone from strength to strength, helping many others connect and find true friendship.
Colin trained as a manager and had two businesses of his own. He spent seven years on the board of directors at Sense Scotland as Chair of Fundraising and then two years on the board of Deafblind Scotland, supporting the definition of deaf blindness by the Scottish parliament.
He is honoured to have been appointed as an Ambassador for Retina UK. He is keen to support the charity to create more peer support groups in Scotland and to help raise vital funds. He said “I hope we can all work together and make it a place we can share our stories and be aware of our potential”
