Talk & support service

Our Retina UK Talk & support service (formerly Telephone Befriending Service) links people who may be feeling isolated or lonely with a trained volunteer for regular contact.

We offer friendly phone calls from trained volunteers who are willing to share their experiences and lend a listening ear.

This service offers a social link on a more personal and longer term basis than the Retina UK Helpline, with regular calls being made by the volunteers for as long as they are welcomed.

The Retina UK Talk & support service volunteers are extensively trained and are all either directly affected by inherited sight loss, or have a close relative with the condition.

This service is particularly suitable for those who may have difficulty attending Retina UK Local Group meetings or other face-to-face events.

There is no pressure on users of the service to continue contact. We regret that we are only able to offer the Retina UK Talk & Support Service to those over the age of 18.

We also offer a number of online support groups.

“It is an absolutely brilliant and well needed service.”
