Genes exist inside all the cells that make up your body. They contain genetic code (DNA) and provide instructions for constructing proteins, which are the building blocks of our bodies and perform a huge variety of roles.

A research project funded by Retina UK helped pave the way to a new gene therapy that has recently produced encouraging results in two young people with achromatopsia, a condition that causes complete colour-blindness and poor overall vision from birth.

February is Retinitis Pigmentosa Awareness Month and we'd love you to get involved to enhance the work of Retina UK, as we continue to support those who are living with retinitis pigmentosa and other inherited sight loss conditions.

This edition marks the start of the charity's 50th anniversary year. It includes lots of ways to get involved over the next 12 months along with details of our Annual and Professionals' Conferences in September.
