Good luck to Chris and Dianne in Blackpool
The whole of #TeamRetina UK will be cheering on comedian Chris McCausland from their sofas this weekend as he heads to Blackpool with his dance partner Dianne Boswell for BBC’s Stricly Come Dancing.
Comedian Chris McCausland is living with retinitis pigmentosa (RP). He is currently taking part in the 20th Anniversary series of BBC TV show Strictly Come Dancing with his dance partner, Dianne Boswell.
This weekend, the whole show moves to Blackpool to the Tower Ballroom with Chris and Dianne dancing the American Smooth to Jump by Paul Anka.
Chris has surprised and inspired many viewers with the quality and accuracy of his dancing, including some spectacular lifts. He initially said “I think what you’re going to get from me is a certain degree of non-conformist dancing because I won’t be able to see the precision of what I’m trying to achieve. I think there’s going to be, by default, a certain degree of my own version more so than other people because how precise can somebody be teaching me in four or five days. It would be so much easier to watch and see what you’re trying to achieve.”
Blackpool is week nine of the 12 week competition. Chris has fond memories of Blackpool. He said “We used to go to Blackpool a lot when I was a kid. I’ve got loads of memories of the seafront, the beach and the fairgrounds. I’d never go on rollercoasters when I was that age. I think because I could see them, they terrified me, whereas now I can’t see them, I’m not bothered so I’ll go on anything. Memories of the arcades and spending time in the early 90’s there. I loved sticks of rock and donkey rides.”
Good luck again Chris and Dianne. We can’t wait to see your American Smooth.
