Applications invited for project grants and studentships

Retina UK invites applications for funding for innovative, high quality research projects investigating the causes and potential treatments for all forms of inherited retinal disease. We are particularly keen to receive proposals with demonstrable translational potential.

Applicants should note that projects must be clearly focused on increasing understanding and developing treatments for inherited retinal dystrophies, as per Retina UK’s charitable objectives. Project grants typically run for two to three years with budgets in the region of £250,000 to £300,000.

As part of our aim to nurture young scientists, we are very pleased to also invite applications for our PhD studentship round, as part of a co-funding agreement with the Macular Society. In this instance, projects must focus on inherited macular dystrophy. The studentship will be worth £120,000, to include a stipend at the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) rate.

The deadline for preliminary applications (brief outline of proposal and budget) for project grants is 11 October 2024. The deadline for full applications for the PhD grant round in partnership with the Macular Society is 6 January 2025. (There is no preliminary stage for studentships.)
