A UK-based, internationally-acclaimed team has found a way to transplant new central vision cells to replace the ones that have stopped working. They will soon recruit 16 people to participate in a first trial, planned to start in 2027.
But they can’t move forward to large-scale trials or an accessible treatment without your support.
The challenge is that producing cells suitable for transplant is currently very expensive and time-consuming. We’re raising £1 million for specialist equipment and technology that solves this problem, and to employ the brightest minds to improve and streamline the process for maximum efficiency.
For someone whose sight loss is already advanced, this research offers the prospect of once again seeing the world around them, and perhaps their loved ones’ faces again.
And because inherited sight loss runs in families, it represents hope for thousands of their children and grandchildren, who face the same future.
Don’t let a potential treatment stall at a red light when it could be reaching thousands.
