This ladies Peer Support Group provides a welcoming, safe and friendly opportunity for people with inherited sight loss to meet up to share experiences, tips and information.

To celebrate International Women's Day in March we are delighted to announce the launch of our new Women's Peer Support group!

We are pleased to invite you to join facilitator Yvette Chivers for our first online social get together on Thursday 6 March at 7pm, specifically set up to support our female community living with inherited retinal dystrophies.

Yvette Chivers, one of our Information & Helpline Coordinators, was diagnosed with RP over 20 years ago when she was 23. Her sight-loss journey spearheaded her to forge her own career in the music industry, with a head-strong “do as much as possible” attitude, which came after a long denial and ticking clock panic phase which many will relate to. Deciding to change her career into giving support within the sight-loss community, starting with a 12-week internship with the RNIB from April 2024, she joined Retina UK with the passion and lived experience that she hopes can support others during their own journey.

This new ladies peer support group is a safe, friendly & welcoming place which will give you the opportunity to discuss what’s on your mind from any troubles & struggles in daily life to specific topics such as loss of your driving license, being a guide dog user or walking with a white cane etc. Even if you would just like a chat, advice or simply need a listening ear, we are here to support you.

So grab a cuppa and let’s share our advice around daily living as well as any other tips & hints to help support and empower women living with inherited progressive sight loss and hopefully make some new friends along the way.

We hope you can make it and look forward to seeing you there!
