This Local Peer Support Group provides a welcoming, safe and friendly opportunity for people with inherited sight loss to meet up to share experiences, tips and information.

We are pleased to invite you to join group facilitator Steve Harris and Info & Support Coordinator Mark Baxter for an online Summer catch up where we are delighted to welcome guest speakers, Kris Gibson, Sight Loss Advisor at Southampton Sight and Ian Morris, Head of Services at Open Sight who will be speaking about their roles and services available within their organisations.

Southampton Sight, a Southampton based charity, offers a central hub for those with sight loss fostering independence, life skills and social inclusion through diverse activities, awareness training and hospital partnerships.

Kris Gibson, their Sight Loss Advisor, originally from the Midlands, has lived and worked in Southampton for many years and feels a true connection with the local community. Kris says “It is a great joy to be a Sight Loss Advisor here at Southampton Sight. Having been born with a degenerative eye condition myself, it is fair to say I come with a lifetime’s experience. From tech assistance to benefit advice, social groups and emotional wellbeing, to NHS training, my role is varied, empowering, and wide-reaching, with the welfare of Southampton V.I. community at its heart”.

Open Sight offer a range of services for those with, or at risk of sight loss. These range from home visits, benefits advice to family support services and social clubs. Ian Morris, their new Head of Services, will be joining us to speak more about his new role and the support services that this local sight loss organisation can provide.

We would also like to announce that sadly our Hampshire group facilitators, Steve and Adrienne Harris are stepping down from their Retina UK volunteer roles to enjoy their retirement and free time. We hope you can join us to thank them for their many years of service & support and wish them all the best for the future!

We welcome and encourage you to come and have your say in how we move forward with this peer support group and how we can best support our V.I community in Hampshire. So please come along and share any ideas you may have for venues and events you may like to visit for future meet ups and if you have an interest in learning more about joining our volunteering team to continue facilitating our Hampshire peer support group.

Whether you are a returning member or new to the group, everyone is welcome!

We look forward to seeing you there!

This meeting will be held online via Zoom.
