We are pleased to invite you join group facilitators Steve & Adrienne Harris along with group member and Retina UK volunteer Keith Hatter, for a Summer social get together and walk through the Royal Victoria Country Park in Netley.
Please come and join us for a social get together and walk through the park followed by lunch in one of their cafes. We will also be welcoming along Mark Baxter, Information & Support Coordinator from Retina UK.
The Royal Victoria Country Park is located by the shores of Southampton Water. It comprises of 200 acres of mature woodland and grassy parkland, as well as a small shingle beach. From 1863 until 1966, the site was home to the Royal Victoria Hospital.
Steve, Adrienne and Keith will be at Netley Train Station car park (post code SO31 5AN) at 11am if you wish to meet up with them there and they will then walk to the Visitor Centre at the park. Please also feel free to go directly to the park Visitor Centre (post code SO31 5GA) for 11.30am where you will be met by a representative of Retina UK.
There are 2 cafes, a coffee shop in the main building and one selling more substantial fare a short distance from it. We can decide on the day which we would like to go to after the walk.
Trains leave Southampton Central at 44 minutes past each hour and reach Netley in 18 minutes. The reception building is a 10-15 minute walk from Netley Station along the track bed of the siding which used to serve the hospital. Trains return from Netley at 18 minutes past each hour and to Fareham at 2 minutes past each hour.
A number 15 bus from West Quay Southampton will take you within a 10-15 minute walk of the reception building.
Car parking costs £2.50 for 1 hour, £5 for 2 hours, £7.50 for up to 4 hours and £9.50 for the day.
We look forward to seeing you there!
