Hampshire Local Peer Support Group
This Local Peer Support Group provides a welcoming, safe and friendly opportunity for people with inherited sight loss to meet up to share experiences, tips and information.
We are pleased to invite you to join the Hampshire Local Peer Support Group for their latest in-person meet up where we will be visiting the Tudor House and Garden in historic Southampton followed by lunch at the nearby Duke of Wellington pub.
Tudor House is Southampton’s most important historic building, revealing over 800 years of history in one fascinating location at the heart of the Old Town. The timber-framed building facing St Michael’s Square was built in the late 15th Century, with King John’s Palace, an adjacent Norman house accessible from Tudor House Garden, dating back a further 300 years. Tudor House gives a unique and atmospheric insight into the lives and times of both its residents through the years, and of Southampton itself. It appeals to visitors of all ages and interests, who find the family-friendly activities, interactive technology and fascinating displays a winning combination.
If you would like to join us for this great day out please meet up with Retina UK volunteer, Keith Hatter outside the entrance to the Tudor House at 10.30am. You’ll find the entrance opposite St Michael’s Square on Bugle Street. You can also find them on What 3 Words – record.recent.fortunate
The ground floor and garden of Tudor House have level access from the street, and there is a lift to the upper floor. There are nearby metered parking spaces, but Blue Badge holders can park without charge.
The admission is £4.50, £3.50 for seniors and accompanying carers are free of charge.
How to Get There
By Train – Southampton Central rail station is approximately 1 mile away from the Tudor House & Garden. A £1 bus service runs from outside platform 4 to Town Quay. You can then walk from here down Bugle Street until you reach the house.
On Foot – From Westquay, follow the Medieval walls and take a left turn on to Blue Anchor Way. You’ll find St Michael’s square in front of you and Tudor House on your right.
Local bus services stop at Hanover Buildings, near The Bargate where it is a short walk southwards until you reach St. Michael’s Church on your left, and then turn right and proceed up a short slope to Tudor House.
Following on from our tour of the Tudor House and Garden we will be walking along to the nearby Duke of Wellington pub for lunch and social catch up at 12.30pm. Please find links to their menus below:-
Please could we ask that you register via the form below by Wednesday 9 October, so that we have an idea of how many would like to attend either Tudor House, the Duke of Wellington for lunch, or both.
If you would like any further information regarding this event please contact Keith Hatter on either hatterkeith@googlemail.com or on 07572 416120.
We hope you can make it and look forward to seeing you there!
