This Local Peer Support Group provides a welcoming, safe and friendly opportunity for people with inherited sight loss to meet up to share experiences, tips and information.
We are pleased to invite you to join Mark Baxter, Retina UK's Information & Support Coordinator and the Buckinghamshire group, for a special guided tour of the 'Seeing Differently' exhibition at the MK Gallery, part of their MK Calling Summer Art Show.
Please come and join us to experience a guided tour of this ‘tactile’ artwork kindly arranged by MK Gallery volunteer and guide, Mike Pearson.
The MK Gallery has partnered with five local community groups to co-curate this year’s open call summer exhibition. The Visually Impaired People (VIP) Group have chosen the theme “Seeing Differently”, with artwork spanning sculpture, pictures, audio visuals and kinetic installations.
Visitors entering this gallery space are actively encouraged to look, listen, inhale, touch and feel the artwork. Think the unthinkable, and “Please Touch the Artwork” is the mantra.
Caroline, one of the severely sight impaired co-curators of the “Seeing Differently” space, explains that we should be discovering new ways at looking at visual art, using many of our other senses – including touch, smell and sound.
Tickets for the exhibition are £3.00 with Carer/Personal Assistant tickets being Free, these can either be paid for over the phone (01908 676900) in advance or on arrival on the day – please note that the gallery is a cashless venue.
Please meet up with Mark and the group outside of the main entrance to the gallery by 10.45am this will allow enough time for anyone who has not already purchased their tickets to do so before the tour starts at 11am.
Following on from the tour, if anyone would like a coffee or bite to eat at the gallery cafe, then you are more than welcome to join us.
