Eyes on the Future Gala Dinner

Posted on: Tuesday 10 July 2018

A Fundraising Gala Dinner – Eyes on the Future – is planned for 10th October at The Park Lane Hotel in London. Featuring dynamic entertainment, a cocktail reception, three course meal and ‘dining in the dark’ experience, this event promises to be a fabulous evening.

Individual places are £200, with a table for ten starting at £2,000. All proceeds will be used to fund our exciting RDH12 Project; a new three year project investigating Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA) caused by faults in the RDH12 gene. This work will be led by Dr Mariya Moosajee at UCL’s Institute of Ophthalmology and aims to study the actual disease mechanisms and identify potential treatments. LCA is a severe form of retinitis pigmentosa and is the primary cause of blindness in children, affecting two to three in every 100,000 individuals.

With 250 places available, this will be a large scale and exciting event. Industry leaders including senior executives at investment banks and funds, law firms and insurance firms in the City of London are already confirmed and we anticipate even more interest in the run up to the dinner!

A unique twist is the dining in the dark experience – guests will be invited to wear special glasses provided by the organisers to mimic sight loss, giving an understanding of the challenges faced by those visually impaired.

The total cost for this pioneering study is £350,000, and is supported by a partnership between University College London’s Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Hospital. The Eyes on the Future Gala Dinner is will be a key fundraiser in this project, as a well as an important awareness-raising event. The project has been supported by Candle in the Dark, The RDH12 Fund for Sight and Through Vicky’s Eyes.
