Manchester local peer support group
This Local Peer Support Group provides a welcoming, safe and friendly opportunity for people to meet up to share experiences, tips and information.
We are pleased to invite you to join group facilitator Rachael Foley for our next Manchester local peer support group meeting where we are delighted to welcome guest speaker Jacquie Wilson from Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Jacquie has been volunteering with Guide Dogs for around 13 years. She has helped in the rehoming office, has raised four Guide Dog puppies, has free run & boarded working guide dogs and gives many talks.
Jacquie will be speaking about the charity Guide Dogs, its aims and what it does, the services they can offer such as My Guide & sighted guide training and of course the dogs. She will be sharing her experiences around the four puppies she has raised, talk about how the dogs are trained, what they do, who can apply for one, how they help and how much difference they make. Jacquie will explain the everyday problems experienced by Guide Dog owners such as obstacles like overhanging hedges, cars parked on pavements and bin day! As well as raising awareness of how dogs should be ignored when working and how they are allowed everywhere by law apart from food preparation areas.
We do hope you can join us for this fascinating insight into the life of a Guide Dog volunteer!
